GDC INTERIORS HEADQUARTERS

The Temple at Horton has been GDC interiors headquarters since 1995. Built in the 1740s for the Earl of Halifax, the Temple is a grade II listed 18th century parkland folly residence with grand sweeping views over the listed expansive rococo parkland, most of which is now under pasture and partly under the plough. The pastoral views take in an 18th century ornamental lake that is lorded over by swans and crossed by bridges, the (triumphal) Arches on an adjacent hill, the Ice House Wood, wave after wave of medieval ridge-and-furrow and views over to Salcey Forest on the horizon.

‘an exceedingly handsome four-columned Ionic temple of golden stone… (which)…with its broad pulvinated frieze is as fine as any at Stowe or Stourhead…The present owner has had no patience with the dull Brownian convention of leading plain grass up to the front door steps. Instead he has fronted his portico with an exedral terrace blazing with summer flowers…To the side a bargeboarded and gabled Dovecote houses doves which pose self-consciously on their perches, a fair tribute to the exotic Horton spirit…Not all Rococo Arcadias were as ambitiously conceived or as richly realised as that at Horton.” Prof Timothy Mole The Historic Gardens of England: Northamptonshire

Perhaps unexpectedly for the headquarters of an interior design practice, the interior style of the Temple is deliberately unpremeditated and continues to be accretive. GDC interiors typically produce bespoke pieces for clients. Many examples of products that have been specifically designed for our headquarters are displayed at the Temple from dining tables, mirrors, place mats, beds, tile designs, room dividers, lamps, wall lights etc.

The Temple also exhibits many of the most exquisite pieces by designers, craftsmen and artists that we admire on both a permanent and temporary bases.
Visits to the Temple may be arranged by appointment.
The Temple is also available for event hire and filming.
