Anglesey Abbey, Cambridgeshire
10th Most Visited of the National Trust Properties

Anglesey Abbey was originally founded by a community of Augustinian canons who had built a priory there in the early 12th century. The Jacobean house was built in about 1600 following the dissolution of the monasteries. But it was only following its acquisition by a wealthy young American, Huttleston Broughton – later to become Lord Fairhaven – that the house and particularly the gardens were to develop into an outstanding example of country house living. The famous gardens have sweeping avenues and classical statuary with captivating views.

Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire has attracted 285,709 visitors last year.
