St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall
9th Most Visited of the National Trust Properties

Still home to the St Aubyn family – who have been there since the 17th century – as well as a small community, this distinctive rocky island is crowned by a medieval church and castle. The oldest buildings date from the 12th century. The Mount has been an important pilgrimage destination ever since some fishermen claimed to have experienced a vision of the Archangel Michael in the year 495. Interestingly the Mount is also associated with the legend of Jack the Giant Killer. The island is linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite setts that is passable at low tide.

St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall has attracted 301,916 visitors last year.
